Test Preparation
SAT Math Tutoring
Who this is for
High school students preparing for the digital SAT who need to lock down their algebra fundamentals and navigate the adaptive testing model.
The SAT rewards deep fluency in a defined set of concepts—especially algebra and advanced math—plus the ability to recognize which mathematical structure a question is testing.

What usually goes wrong
- Careless algebra errors. Dropping a negative sign or misdistributing because of the ticking clock, turning a guaranteed point into a frustrating loss.
- Misinterpreting word problems. Getting lost in paragraphs of text and failing to translate the English into a simple linear equation.
- Ineffective Desmos use. Either refusing to use the built-in Desmos graphing calculator when it would solve the problem in seconds, or trying to graph everything and wasting time.
- The adaptive jump. Cruising through the first module, only to hit a wall of unfamiliar, difficult questions in the second module and panicking.
The approach
Diagnosis of Weak Areas. We start by taking a detailed inventory of your past mistakes to identify exactly which algebra concepts are leaking points.
Scope and Pattern Recognition. Many SAT Math questions draw from recurring structures and skill patterns. We drill those patterns until you can quickly identify the underlying setup.
Desmos Integration. We deliberately practice when to use the Desmos graphing tool to solve certain problems more efficiently, and when doing it by hand is actually faster and safer.
Common Score-Limiting Mistakes. We focus on common distractor patterns and build defensive habits to ensure you do not fall for them.
What sessions include
- High-Resolution Whiteboard PDF. Every derivation and pacing strategy is saved and sent to you immediately after the session.
- Ongoing Access to Your Course Folder. A dedicated Google Drive folder with all your practice tests, whiteboard notes, and resources.
- Full Video Recording. Available for online sessions so you can rewatch exactly how we broke down a tough geometry problem.
Common questions
How does the digital adaptive test work?
The digital SAT has two Math modules. Module 1 contains a mix of difficulty levels, and your performance there determines whether Module 2 has a higher- or lower-difficulty mix. Strong Module 1 accuracy matters because the adaptive route affects the range of scores available to you.
Should I use Desmos for everything?
No. While Desmos is an incredibly powerful tool that can solve systems of equations and find intercepts instantly, relying on it for basic algebraic manipulation will slow you down. We train you to recognize which tool is best for each specific problem.
Online or in person?
Online anywhere in the United States. In person by appointment within approximately 15 minutes of ZIP code 23462 in Virginia Beach, including Oberndorf Central Library.
